🛟 American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Course
The American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Course is designed to train experienced lifeguards to become certified instructors capable of teaching the Red Cross Lifeguarding program. Participants will learn how to deliver high-quality instruction in lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid, using a blend of online and in-person training methods.
By the end of the course, instructor candidates will be able to:
Teach and evaluate skills in basic-level Lifeguarding courses
Use Red Cross training materials and resources effectively
Conduct skill assessments and manage classroom and poolside instruction
Promote safety and professionalism in aquatic environments
To enroll, candidates must:
Be at least 17 years old by the final session
Hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification (including Deep Water), with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid
Complete the online portion of the course before attending the in-person sessions
Successfully pass a prerequisite skills assessment, including:
Entry and swimming approach
Surface dive (7–10 feet)
Passive submerged rescue
Rapid extrication with assistance
Rapid assessment and single-rescuer CPR (3 minutes)
Blended Learning: Includes a 2-hour online module and 16 hours of in-person instruction led by a certified Instructor Trainer
In-Person Sessions: Cover teaching techniques, skill demonstrations, and evaluation methods
Participants must obtain and review:
Lifeguarding Instructor’s Manual (print version required for in-person sessions)
Lifeguarding Manual (digital or print)
Lifeguarding Course Presentation materials and videos
Upon successful completion, candidates receive a 2-year American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification, qualifying them to teach Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, and Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding courses
